STD Testing FAQs

Sexually transmitted diseases (STD) can be worrisome, but they’re very common. The STD testing process is smooth and easy with Yorktown Health – Women’s Personalized Care. STDs don’t get better without treatment, so don’t wait to find out if you’re infected.

How often do I need STD testing?

It is recommended for a testing schedule to be appropriate for your situation. In general, you need STD testing if you have symptoms such as new genital discharge, genital pain, pain during intercourse, pelvic area pain, fever, genital itchiness or burning, genital skin changes, including bumps, sores, or other growths. If you have sex with anyone who’s tested positive for an STD, or who has active symptoms of an STD, schedule a test as soon as possible.

What Is Tested for on an STD Test?

Unfortunately there is not one test that can cover all STDs. Some of the common tests include blood tests for genital herpes, syphilis, hepatitis, or HIV, urine test for chlamydia and gonorrhea, and a pap test for HPV. Our providers can also test for other issues such as HIV and AIDS, among others. Call us today to book your appointment.

 Why Should I Get Tested?

Getting tested for STDs keeps you and anyone you have sex with healthy. You are at some risk of getting an STD, unless you’re abstinent. People with STDs may not have any symptoms, so getting tested is the only way to know your STD status.
